Queen Bee Boxing Safeguarding Policy

1. Purpose

The purpose of this policy is to ensure the safety and well-being of all participants in our boxing classes for young people. We are committed to creating a safe and supportive environment where young people can learn and practice boxing.


2. Scope

This policy applies to all staff, volunteers, participants, and any other individuals involved in our boxing classes.


3. Principles

  • The welfare of the child is paramount.
  • All children, regardless of age, disability, gender, racial heritage, religious belief, sexual orientation, or identity, have the right to equal protection from harm.
  • All suspicions and allegations of abuse will be taken seriously and responded to swiftly and appropriately.
  • All staff and volunteers have a responsibility to report concerns.


4. Responsibilities

4.1 Safeguarding Officer

  • Nadia Finer, is the designated Safeguarding Officer (DSO) will be appointed to oversee the implementation of this policy.
  • The DSO will be responsible for dealing with safeguarding concerns, allegations, or incidents.
  • The DSO will ensure all staff and volunteers are aware of their responsibilities and know how to respond to concerns.

4.2 Staff and Volunteers

  • Must be aware of the safeguarding policy and procedures.
  • Must complete safeguarding training as required.
  • Must report any concerns about the welfare of a child to the DSO.
  • Must respect the confidentiality of any safeguarding issues and only share information on a need-to-know basis.


5. Procedures

5.1 Recruitment and Training

  • All staff and volunteers will undergo a thorough recruitment process, including background checks (DBS checks) and reference checks.
  • All staff and volunteers will receive safeguarding training and regular updates.


5.2 Recognising Abuse

  • Abuse can be physical, emotional, sexual, or neglect. Signs of abuse may include unexplained injuries, changes in behavior, fear of certain individuals, and neglect of personal hygiene.


5.3 Reporting Concerns

  • If a staff member or volunteer has a concern about a child's welfare, they must report it to the DSO immediately.
  • If a child is in immediate danger, contact emergency services.


5.4 Responding to Disclosures

  • Listen to the child without judgment.
  • Do not promise confidentiality; explain that you need to share the information with the DSO.
  • Record the information accurately and pass it to the DSO.


5.5 Dealing with Allegations Against Staff or Volunteers

  • Any allegations against staff or volunteers will be taken seriously and investigated promptly.
  • The DSO will liaise with local safeguarding authorities as necessary.


6. Code of Conduct

All staff and volunteers must adhere to the following code of conduct to ensure the safety and well-being of children:

  • Treat all children with respect.
  • Always act in the best interests of the child.
  • Avoid any behaviour that could be misinterpreted or lead to allegations of inappropriate conduct.
  • Maintain appropriate boundaries and avoid one-on-one situations with a child in a private setting.


7. Communication with Parents and Guardians

We will keep parents and guardians informed about our safeguarding policy and procedures. We encourage open communication and welcome any concerns or questions they may have.


8. Review of Policy

This policy will be reviewed annually or following any significant incidents or changes in legislation or guidance.
